An oasis of modern golf course technology, the Starboard Course at Harborside International opened it's final nine holes in mid-summer 1996. A beautiful compliment to its sister Port Course. Built on a former solid waste landfill at Lake Calumet, architect Dick Nugent and the Illinois International Port Authority have created an economic and environmental masterpiece just minutes from downtown Chicago. The links-style design features bent grass tees, fairways, and greens and incorporates native grasses, moguls and marshlands to test all golfing skills. With one of the highest elevations in the area, the course offers dramatic views of the downtown skyline to the north, and Gary, Indiana industrial complexes to the east. Ever-changing winds add another dimension to golfer's shot-making selections and course management. A large driving range, the John Jacobs Learning Center, a short-game practice area, and the new Prairie-style clubhouse round out the amenities at one of Chicagoland's premier public golf facilities.
