Deer Creek Golf Club is a beautifully groomed course on an essentially flat tract of land in suburban Will County. Many young trees will someday create problems for wayward tee shots, but now those errant drives seldom result in serious difficulty. The Centerstage Golf staff played the course after near record temperatures blessed the Chicago area in mid-April, and the course was in great shape; however, a stiff northwest wind made scoring a bit tougher than it would normally be in prevailing winds. Despite the generally benign layout, everyone in our foursome found the water on the right off the tee on the tough (Par 4, 443 yards, #2 handicap,) 16th hole. At 6900 yards from the tips, length off the tee is a key to going low on the scorecard. Our staff played from the White blocks (6391 yards) and still hit a lot of long irons into the Par 4's. The Par 3's are plenty tough. The 8th, playing at 182(B)/167(W) slightly downhill across water looks easy enough, but be sure to hit enough club and stay left, as the pond creeps around the right side of the green. A very nice 3-par. The 13th is featured on the scorecard and looks like a piece of cake. Not into the wind. One par in our group. The Par 5's offer the best birdie chances. Number 15, which we played into the wind, is the longest and the toughest; but my favorite, despite finding the left lake off the tee, is #7. The Centerstage Golf staff agrees that almost every hole lays out nicely from the tee. Course architect Roger Packard has made excellent use of traps and water to frame the fairways and protect the large and mostly flat greeens, which were very consistent early in the season.
