Description
Built in 1975 by owner Donald Mortell with design help from George Fazio, Balmoral Woods is one tough Will County golf course. At 6603 from the tips, it can be quite difficult, with five Par 4's at well over 400 yards. The Centerstage Golf staff played it from the White Tees early in the season and found it to be a strong challenge that played somewhat longer than the listed yardage.

Of the five Par 3's, only #8 plays at less than 170 yards from the Blues. The 13th, at 208 yards across a deep vale, is probably the hardest hole on the course..."almost too hard"...but worth the view. The Par 4's seemed either a bit too long or a bit too short; but #'s 4, 15 and 18 are solid. Except for #7, the signature hole, the Par 5's play rather short but do offer some good birdie chances; and #12 is a potential eagle waiting to hatch. Holes 7-14 are particularly scenic, playing through hilly, tree-lined terrain. Though the rest of the course is more open, there are plenty of places to find trouble.

Course Manager David Mortell and his staff are a friendly and knowledgeable team that gives Balmoral Woods a family atmosphere. The grill and dining room are comfortable and open and provide a full menu for daily patrons and banquet facilities for up to 60 people. Balmoral Woods, rated a 4-star course by Golf Digest, has hosted three U.S. Open local qualifiers and is the annual qualifying site for the Chicago Open.
