Opened in 1979, Arlington Lakes Golf Club is built on 89 acres of land once used by the U.S. Army as a NIKE base. The land was donated to the Arlington Heights Park District for $1 in the mid-70's. The park district, along with the water reclamation district and Gill & Associates, designed the 18-hole track, which doubles as a flood water retention area to alleviate local flooding.
The most difficult hole at Arlington Lakes is #9. A Par 5 playing at just 451 yards, players must avoid water hazards on every shot. The approach is over water to a narrow, sloping green protected by four deep-faced bunkers.
The course features 106 sand traps, and water is in play on 14 of the 18 holes.
