Though it sounds like the name of the lime-scented Thai herb, Kefir is actually a yogurt-like product possessing live active cultures thought to have a ton of health benefits. Kefir originated near Russia in the Caucus mountains over 2000 years ago, where it was stored in animal skin bags hung in a doorway. Thankfully, these days you can just get yours straight from a Taylor machine at Starfruit.
Out of the machine, the soft serve-like product tastes more like a frozen rehydrating sports drink than ice cream, but Starfruit's pomegranate version has a sweetness that balances out the tartness quite nicely. Unlike many of its competitors, Starfruit also offers fruit-filled smoothies and parfaits.
The shop itself features spacey fruit decals in the window, a stark white interior filled out with stainless steel stools, glinting, chic antique-style chandeliers and cheery staff decked out in neon pink t-shirts. Everyone from the stroller to the tattoo set seems to dig this spot.
