The third restaurant added to the growing grove of Oranges is much like its predecessors, but with more of a family appeal. This location, situated in the heart of quaint and quiet Roscoe Village, has a lovely outdoor patio and kitschy chandeliers adorned with oranges and greens. A peachy hue covers the walls, the ceiling dressed in mango-color tile. Less hip and trendy than its siblings, Orange on Roscoe feels right at home on this family-friendly block.
While the decor may be toned down slightly, the food isn’t. It dishes up several choices of omelets in flavors like chicken ginger Thai and one filled with roasted ham, caramelized pineapple and Swiss cheese. The huevos rancheros, which feels lighter than most versions but still packs a punch, tops the list of staff and customer favorites. If you’re looking for something sweeter, try the chai tea French toast or the exquisite pan-seared oatmeal. Most plates cost around $8.95.
Each week the restaurant serves themed specials that typically center on one locale—you might find dishes from Norway one week and France the next. The pancake flights, four stacks of silver dollar pancakes that are all unique but relate to each other, also switch-up weekly. One week found a "candies" theme, with the pancakes mimicking turtles, Jolly Ranchers, Reese’s cups and Gummy Bears. No brunch is complete without a beverage from the fresh juice bar, which offers about every imaginable variation, from watermelon and grapefruit to orange and pineapple.
Orange also dishes out a dinner that’s as interesting as its brunch. You’ll find fried chicken and waffles, veggie pot pie, barbecue ribs, fried brie and scallops on top of blueberry pancakes on this revolving menu. And this location (unlike the other two) has a liquor license, so you can sip a mixed drink with fresh juice while you down your dinner.
