Known best for its Greek specials like Grecian chicken with rice pilaf and spanakopita (spinach pie), Hilltop is otherwise a standard diner with a regular lunch break crowd of staff from Swedish Covenant Hospital (which is within walking distance) and senior citizens. It has even adopted a Businessman's Luncheon – a cup of soup and rotating dishes like Chicken Kiev – to keep said crowds flowing.
Elsewhere the menu is loaded with all-day breakfast options, many a pancake, waffle and omelet goods, never pushing $6, while a fleet of more than 40 sandwiches share the same price. You’ll find mostly standards like burgers and patty melts, but with a few special mentions like the francheezie, a plump frankfurter stuffed with cheese and wrapped in a blanket of bacon. Otherwise keep an eye out for the a la cart sections, where the $12 N.Y. strip steak reins supreme.
The way of desserts, think banana splits ($3.95), three palm-sized scoops of ice-cream topped with cherries, whip cream, nuts and wafers. And bring cash – no credit cards are accepted.
