Opa! If it's Greek food that you're after, Athena has plenty of authentic dishes to satisfy your craving at this white tablecloth-covered restaurant in the heart of Greektown. Spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese wrapped in phyllo dough),
mousaka (layers of eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, beef and cheese) and a variety of lamb dishes range from $9.95 to $19.95. Chicken riganati is a hearty, filling meal—a tenderized half of a chicken baked with potatoes and coated with olive oil, lemon and oregano.
Appetizers, which range from $5.95 to $11.95, include saganaki (goat cheese breaded and flamed in brandy), small cheese pies, gyros, an eggplant and garlic spread and more. Salads, pasta dishes and seafood entrees also dot the menu. Seafood offerings include calamari, swordfish cubes on skewers with tomatoes, green peppers and onions, shrimp on skewers with veggies and swordfish steak broiled and topped with lemon and oregano.
Baklava, rice pudding, baked custard topped with a caramel glaze, baklava cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake sure sound delicious, but good luck saving room for dessert— dinner dishes tend to be pretty darn filling.
