Tall Black Guy

Local producer and founder of Tall Black Guy Productions, Terrel Wallace (a.k.a. Tall Black Guy), uses his self-made label to fuse vintage soul sounds with progressive hip-hop beats.

Born and raised in Detroit, Wallace was influenced at an early age by his father’s passion for soul and jazz music. This helped him set the bar for his high standard productions and has put him on a path toward, what he calls, "the ideal of the flawless beat." His signature sound is a multi-layered blend of melodic basslines and samples (anything from Bossa Nova to classic soul), which is all seamlessly weaved together with sharp kicks and snares.

Wallace has collaborated with a number of local artists including The Primeridian, Kenny Keys, Dee Jackson, Pathfinders, Rashid Hadee and Pugs Atomz, among others. He’s participated in numerous beat battles such as "Dance to The Drummer’s Beat," and in 2007 he won the "Red Bull Beat" competition. Currently, Wallace is working with the 80’s Babies, and is looking to release a series of albums on ReServed Records Inc.
