| Newberry has made femme rock quirky. Several years ago when Newberry first left the country for a stay in Brazil she had no idea that her travels would inspire her to write so prolifically. Drawing inspiration from the comedy of teen and twenty-something relationships she has written an arsenal of music that is just now coming to the attention of Northwestern and Chicago-area listeners. It wasn't until after she returned from studying abroad in Nepal that she overcame her stagefright enough to begin performing regularly. Who's to say what Nepal can do to a musician? Her recent appearances include Higher Grounds, the Northwestern Music Showcase, and the Chi Psi Lodge annual philanthropy concert. Newberry is now delving into solo-electric guitar performance and small ensemble work. -- Nick Guroff
