Nancy Stone has emerged as one of Chicago's most electrifying artists within the music scene. This self-taught singer/songwriter has an amazing ear for producing raw, pop-fueled, rock creations. Her approach blends rich vocals, along with guitar harmonies that surround solid rhythmic foundations. A talented musician, her proven ability to combine musical styles, produces a sound that is all her own. Her career has been a whirlwind of activity that began as cofounder of the popular local jam band, Citrus. It wasn't long before the group released their self-titled CD with producer Martin Stebbing, and quickly began selling out local venues and opening for national acts throughout the Midwest. Feeling the strength from her collaborative experience, lead Nancy to create her own band, Butterfly McQueen. Hiring Rob Bonaccorsi (Freddy Jones Band) on guitar, proved to be the magical ingredient to another powerful success. Armed with a fully loaded guitar, she teamed up with producer Danny Shaffer, to release Butterfly's CD "What Are the Chances". Opening for rock legends, Jazz is Dead and Stephen Stills, was just a taste of things to come. For the next two years, Nancy's band was voted as one of Chicago's best female fronted bands, while at the same time, her energetic performances, fueled the fire that helped raise over $20,000 for Open Hand Chicago (Helping people with HIV). As a result, sponsor Jim Beam/DeKuyper, picked up the band for the "Women Who Rock" promotion.
Engaged with the desire to advance her talents beyond her native region, Nancy embarked on a journey as a solo artist, traveling throughout North America. Her efforts soon captured the attention of those who had been her musical influences. Before long, she was sharing the stage with musical friends Vince Wellnick, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Little Blue, featuring Jed Lieber along with Jeff Pevar.
Nancy's presence has made a lasting impression on the Chicago music scene. Her strengths as an artist and mentor can be seen every week while she hosts an open mic, and passes her experience on to anyone who has the desire to grow as a performer. Every other month, she also co-produces and hosts a female musicians showcase entitled Pure Temptation . The event highlights extraordinary newcomers, along with seasoned performers; creating an avenue of support for women involved with music industry. Nancy is a self-contained artist with an incredible promise for the future. And while she continues to push the musical envelope with each new project she pursues, her greatest gift is, that every time she takes the stage, her explosive energy consistently fires up musicians and ignites an audience.
