Matthew Santos

Matthew Santos has established himself as a rare and truly gifted artist who falls into a genre of his own. His distinguished style and his ethereal voice have attracted a fan base that has exploded in numbers far beyond his Columbia College beginnings.

In collaboration with three-time Grammy nominee Lupe Fiasco, Matthew is a featured artist on Lupe's Grammy-nominated album "Food 'n Liquor" in the song "American Terrorist" as well as the soon to be released second album that is destined to garner more international critical acclaim. Their collaboration, "Superstar" is available for listening at: http://www.lupefiasco.com/sneakpeek/index.php . Matthew Santos will join Lupe Fiasco in a nationwide tour in mid-October, 2007. Matthew Santos' first solo album, "Matters of the Bittersweet," will be released later this year on Candy Rat Records.

Matthew has won appreciation from a host of industry veterans and critics such as producer Jim Tullio (Aretha Franklin, Steve Goodman, Mavis Staples) and engineer Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, U2). He collaborated on legendary singer-songwriter John Martyn's previously unreleased folk-rock inspired ballad, "Anna." The reincarnation of which will be featured on Matthew’s own forthcoming studio album. And most recently, Matthew recorded a track with renowned soul singer, Sam Butler, Jr. (Blind Boys of Alabama).

In the past year, Matthew Santos has performed at Lollapalooza Chicago with Lupe Fiasco, SXSW, Coachella Music Festival, Milwaukee's Summerfest and Chicago's Around the Coyote Arts Festival; and has headlined with Gym Class Heroes, recorded his six-song EP "As a Crow Flies"and played with The Roots, Bob Schneider and Josh Kelley.

He and his four-piece band, Matthew Santos (lead vocals, guitar); Aviva Jaye (vocals, keys); Robert Tucker (drums); Graham Burris (bass) are currently in the studio with Jim Tullio recording their second full-length album, a project that is already generating label interest even before its completion.
