| Don't be misled by his name. Jim Trompeter is an extraordinary pianist. Chicago Reader jazz critic Neil Tesser calls him "one of Chicago's best," complimenting his "buzz-saw technique, overflowing melodies, and stretched harmonies," as well as his ability to pick (and blend) talented sidemen. Chicago Tribune critic Howard Reich concurs, adding that "Trompeter and colleagues command a richer musical vocabulary in any sixteen bars than most bands do in their entire repertoire." He has a CD, Four's and Two's (NYC Records), and he's also been on recordings by George Russell, Bob Moses and a number of others.
