Graham Cousens, a singer-songwriter who has been quietly wowing audiences in and around Chicago since 2003, has released his debut CD on Spade Kitty records entitled "Living Room Sessions."
His smooth, soft croon recalls Eric Matthews and, in fact, the songs on "Living Room Sessions" sound like a perfect mix of early solo Paul McCartney, Eric Matthews, America, C,S&N and Orleans. If this record came out in 1974, it would have been all over the radio. Graham's vocals are consistently breathtaking and magical, and the rich, resonant colors painted on "Living Room Sessions" make this not only a Sunday Morning album but a late-evening one. In other words, in the right, more mellow mood, you are going to have a hard time doing better than this. The breezy, plaintive formula employed throughout "Living Room Sessions" is simply a timeless and enthralling one.
For live shows, Graham is joined by the cream of the crop of Chicago's music scene to deliver the pop-rock version of "Living Room Sessions." And while the record may be perfect for a mellow Sunday morning, the live version is the alter-ego. The band gives "Living Room Sessions" a perfect pop translation by blissfully flushing out the rock, pop and alt-country nuances of the CD. It's a combination that is all too seldom seen these days, and definitely worth checking out.
