DJ WHITE SHADOW – Currently spinning at Le Passage and the Underground (www.djwhiteshadow.com; www.myspace.com/whtshdw)

White Shadow's musical style is very much like the Midwest he calls home: a melting pot. Paul masterfully mixes all genres, fueled by hip hop, an incredible microphone presence, his ability to connect with a crowd and drive them into a frenzy.

Born in Youngstown Ohio, Paul fell in love with hip hop music very early on, and was break-dancing with a local crew in the second grade. After a move to Detroit, Michigan, Paul first fell in love with the idea of being a DJ. Studying pioneer and visionary DJs like The Electrifying Mojo, The Wizard, and Mr. Gary Chandler, Paul broadened his musical knowledge and massive music collection to include funk, techno, pop and rock.

The segway from DJ appreciator and music lover to professional DJ occurred for Paul in a very unique way. In 1993 he was accepted in a program to study abroad in Japan, and quickly made friends with a local bar owner who shared his appreciation for music. Paul began to DJ at the Delta Market every Thursday night, and quickly became the bar’s most popular attraction.

After over a year in Japan, Paul moved back to the States and immediately maxed out his credit cards buying DJ and Production equipment. He set up shop in his dorm, and within months was headlining parties and nightclubs. Throughout college, Paul produced some warmly-received techno tracks for various stateside labels under the moniker "Element 82," and began traveling both as a hip hop and Detroit techno DJ. During his travels, he headlined clubs throughout Italy, Vienna, France, England, Switzerland, and Germany and became part of a French collective known as "Le Band Adhesives." While Paul was stateside, between DJ gigs and trying to attend college, he began producing a series of events called "the analog soiree," where old school artists like Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, Nice and Smooth, RUN DMC, De La Soul and many others would play live once a month at rotating venues around Michigan. These parties were wildly successful, but more importantly, allowed Paul to develop relationships with many of his childhood heroes, most of which he still maintains today.

After college, Paul moved to Chicago and quickly established himself quickly as a driving force in what he calls the city's "high class hip hop" scene. Often doing parties for sports figures, celebrities, and hometown heroes like R. Kelly and Fall Out Boy, along with his regular gigs at Manor, Paul is the most sought after DJ in the city.
