| One of the many bands of the new funk/rock movement that is sweeping the nation, the Cross Cooks are notable in that they are able to seamlessly blend the various influences of the genre into each song (whereas many of the other practitioners switch back and forth between rootsy folk-rock sounding songs followed unabashed funk songs). Though Dave Matthews Bland comparisons come to mind, their music is much more alive than the tepid AAA jams of DMB. The quartet is comprised of Chris "Smiley" Tesluk (guitar, vocals, cello), Craig Christiansen (guitar, vocals, trumpet) Jerry Burkhart (bass, keys, mandolin, backing vocals) and Glenn Kotche (drums and percussion). The members of this talented quartet also have a number of side projects. (among them, backing Paul K. and the Weathermen and Chris Mills.) They have a new demo tape out and are planning a late '98 CD release.
