| Chicago Symphony's development orchestra (the first US training orchestra -- 1919 -- affiliated with a major symphony) performs free shows at Orchestra Hall (and elsewhere in the Chicago area) throughout the season, usually led by big-name conductors (though the young assistant conductor, William Eddins, is outstanding) and soloists . Tix are free if you mail Orchestra Hall a few weeks before the show.
