From the rollicking "Telegram" to the soulful "Dead Man's Poise," the music of The Chamber Strings is contagious. Even after your first listen, you'll be humming along to the band's energetic, yet melodic sound.
The Chamber Strings, whose first CD, "Gospel Morning," was released in 1997 by Idiot Savant Records and then re-released in '99 by Bobsled Records, comprises five members:
Carolyn Engelmann - piano, vocals Tim Fowler - guitar, vocals Anthony Illarde - drums Kevin Junior - vocals, guitar Jason Walker - bass, vocals.
The Chamber Strings was started by Kevin Junior, formerly of Mystery Girls and the Rosehips. Junior spent three years working with musician Epic Soundtracks before Soundtracks' death in 1997. Bassist Ellis Clark and pianist Todd Fletcher were part of the band's original lineup, but have since left the group.
The Chamber Strings' next album, "Month of Sundays", was released in March 2001 to much critical acclaim. (Alissa LaSovage)
Members Carolyn Engelmann, Tim Fowler, Anthony Illarde and Jason Walker have gone on to form the group, San Tropez. The Chamber Strings reunited in December 2006 and played a sold-out show at the Double Door on January 20, 2007. Currently they are preparing material for their third album, to be released in sometime in 2007.
