Baroque Band are Chicago's new, and only, period instrument orchestra!
In the summer of 2006, internationally known British baroque violinist Garry Clarke moved to Chicago and discovered that despite its rich cultural environment, Chicago didn't have a regular period instrument orchestra. Along with some of the period instrument specialists already based here he went around fixing this and the orchestra will make it's debut at three concerts in May 2007. Clarke's performances have been described by the Washington Post as "cut-to-the-bone, every note crackling with purpose and electricity." In the UK he is recognized as "one of the finest exponents of baroque music in the country" (Oxford Times)
Baroque Band are already getting much attention from the public and the press, local and national, and they look set to become one of America's premier period instrument ensembles.
