K. G. Ballard

1916 - 1964

K. G. Ballard, whose pen names were Holly Roth and P. J. Merrill, was a magazine writer and journalist who published several mystery novels. She once served as secretary of the Mystery Writers of America. She was born in Chicago in 1916, and published her first novel at the age of 42. Critics find that while her books sometimes strain credibility, her style is engaging enough to overcome flawed plots. Her life ended in a freak accident when she fell off a fishing boat in the Mediterranean.

Works:

  • The Coast of Fear, 1958
  • Trial By Desire, 1959
  • Bar Sinister, 1960
  • Gauge of Deception, 1963
  • Too Many Doctors, 1963
