What to expect: Films of all types, from anime on, including special programs like Black Perspectives (honoring Sidney Poitier), Cinema of the Americas (covering film from Latin America), Spotlight Illinois (highlighting local filmmakers) and Green Screen (films covering environmental issues). There will also be free ticketed panel events on a number of topics.
Why to go: There are tons of reasons to check out the fest (we've picked seven to see here). For a truly local entry, try "Wesley Willis's Joyrides," an examination of the schizophrenic Chicago artist and musician.
Additional info: Films will be shown at three locations: AMC 600 N. Michigan, AMC River East and the Music Box. The Opening Night screening ("The Brothers Bloom") will be at the Harris Theater on Thursday, October 16 beginning at 6 p.m., with an after-party at the Chicago Cultural Center ($100, $35-$40 for film only). The Closing Night screening ("Good") will be held at the Harris Theater on Wednesday, October 29 at 6 p.m. ($35-$40).
