Editorial Review of Bootlegger's

Two things especially lead me to believe that Bootleggers is the white trash cousin of the well-known Division Street family. For one, scenes of bouncers breaking up brawls is reminiscent of the Jerry Springer Show. Secondly, a number of stuffed animal heads adorn the wall above the bar.

That said, do not write this place off as being beneath you. It plays host to a fun-loving and flirtatious crowd, turning the bar into a typical meat market on a smaller scale. It collects its patrons through enticing promotions at the door ("Come on in, ladies...free shots!") and the lack of a cover charge (unlike many of its neighbors).

While dancers cram the tiny dance floor in the middle of the bar, the DJ repeatedly reminds them that he'll "play anything you want to hear." He also encourages girls to shake their stuff atop the bar, offering up more free shots (mostly that sugary syrup with the slightest hint of alcohol).

For those who prefer to quench their thirst with both feet on solid ground, be warned that the bar service tends to be slow. And for those born with two left feet, a lone pool table serves as the alternate source of entertainment. Unless people watching tickles your fancy, because Bootleggers never runs out of interesting characters to observe. (Wendi Hailey)
