This local quartet calls their brand of indie rock "slop-rock;" they're dead-on with that description. It's punky and spiky, fuzzy and gritty and murky. But at the same time however, there are nice melodies and catchy hooks . It's shiny music for the low-fi end of the power pop spectrum. Most recently, Woolworthy has released a six-song EP, recorded by Matt Allison (Alkaline Trio) and mixed by Doug McBride (Cheap Trick, Veruca Salt) on UK label Boss Tuneage Records for distrobution in Europe and Japan.
Additionally, Woolworthy's song, "Leap Year" is featured on Local 101 Vol. 2, a CD compilation produced by Chicago radio giant Q101. The band has also contributed songs to Breakthru Indie-Radio, Beluga on the Rocks...Round 2, Geek Monger Music Vol. 1 and Chicago's Finest. They released a 10-song CD, Sweet Second Place in August '99, and also have a self titled CD (recorded by former Urge Overkill soundman Chuck Uchida at Attica Studios) that's an impressive effort. It's littered with sparkly pop rock gems from end to end and has received favorable attention from Chicago's Q101 and WXRT. (an early demo was chosen as a Q101 local "Demo of the Week")
Influenced by Husker Du, Replacements, and Guided By Voices, Jim deRogatis calls them "A refreshingly attitude-free indie quartet...," while New City refers to them as "sparkling Q101 material... perfectly molded after one of the station's power bands, Green Day." Others compare them more with Superchunk and late-era 7 Seconds...
The band includes: Rudy Gonzalez (vocals/guitar); Rick Uncapher (bass); Dave Suh (guitar/vocals-also of Caviar and formerly of Emil Muzz); and Mark Doyle (drums-formerly of Loud Lucy and Verbow).
Former members include Steve Vasquez (guitar/vocals), and Brian Belval (drums), and Ian Lee (drums).
