Jan James

Jan James was voted "Best Female Vocalist" by the Detroit Metro Times before she left her hometown for Chicago. Since coming to the Windy City, she's opened for artists like Koko Taylor, B.B. King, The Divinyls, The Bo Deans, Albert Collins, and Little Feat, and performed at venues like the Chicago Club and the city's Taste of Chicago.

People have likened her to Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner. New City says James "pulls out all the stops, wailing, growling and baying... this is mature showbiz, thoughtfully conceived and deftly executed."

She's been well-received in Europe, with the pressing saying things like "voices of the caliber of Jan James are rare in today's pop music" and "... Her upbeat rock is exceptionally radio friendly and very stylishly executed."

She has several CDs, including an eponymous release, Soul Desire, Last Train and Color of the Rose. "Color of the Rose" was voted #16 on Dutch radio's "Top 50 Songs of 98."

James has recently been performing in the Royal George Theatre's Love, Janis, a play based on the letters and songs of -- guess who -- Janis.
