This restaurant is located in the heart of Greektown in downtown Chicago. The Greek waiters help give this restaurant an authentic Greek-restaurant feel. In addition, the restaurant has Greek columns and landscapes painted on the walls.
The food is superb and surprisingly inexpensive. They have an extensive menu and I have yet to encounter anything that wasn't excellent. The most exciting dish is the saganaki (cheese soaked in Brandy). Some of the more daring waiters can line their arms with 8 dishes as another waiter lights the appetizer on fire to a resounding cry of "Opa!" Although dinner is delicious, save room for dessert because even something as simple as the rice pudding is fantastic!
The Parthenon is usually busy and crowded and therefore somewhat noisy. Waiters are constantly rushing in and out often with armfuls of saganaki and shouts of "Opa!" However, the noise and bustle are just another part of this fun and exciting dining experience.
Reservations are not required and there isn't usually a wait.
