Despite the name, Morgan's Bar and Grill on Maxwell Street lacks the history or distinctive touches of the old Maxwell Street marketplace aside from a few black and white photographs. What it does have are 24 domestic and imported beers on tap and 12 flat-screen televisions surrounding the restaurant, making it a great destination for anyone who wants to take a date to dinner without missing SportsCenter. Most of the screens are tuned to whatever sporting event is on tap for the evening, though a few are dedicated to running music videos.
The menu runs the gamut from salads to pasta to chicken and each dish comes with a small onion ring as a garnish. Aside from that, there's little to recommend about the entrees, but the burgers are worth investigating, especially the Morgan's burger with jalapeno cheese and bacon.
The interior design reflects Morgan's suburban roots: Dark wood and low, copper ceilings make for a relaxing, early evening dinner or weekend lunch. The windows along all sides give it an open, spacious feeling with lots of natural light. In the evenings, drink specials and retro '80s nights attract the nearby UIC crowd and those who are still hanging on to that "college experience."
