Walk into some neighborhood bars throughout the city and you'll feel as though you've walked into a museum, a time warp, or one of the taverns of your father's Chicago. Nestled in Mount Greenwood on the far Southwest Side, Corrigan's reflects both the neighborhood as it exists in the 21st century and acts as a reminder of the days when a "pub" meant something more than just an Irish-themed bar. The interior of Corrigan's is a breathing museum to the Mount Greenwood’s once (still?) thriving South Side Irish community, with jerseys, banners, photographs and other tributes to the neighborhood's high school sports teams. Owner Billy Corrigan also plays a twisted version of six degrees of separation, claiming to link any celebrity to Little Flower parish within six degrees.
Otherwise, Corrigan's is just like any other sports bar on the South Side. They curse the White Sox when they lose, and find fault with the way they win. Nine televisions (including two wide screens) capture every heartbreaking moment. Guinness flows freely, as do $2 you-call-it drinks on most nights, which can send you home in a good mood any night of the week.
